It starts with a very interesting verse, it's very abstract and metaphorical. Also, how the lyrics for many of these songs feel very forced and inauthentic because it has to sound like "Evanescence". Using some of the same words over doesn't bother me too much. As the band went along the lyrics have become way more literal, very formulaic and feels unimaginative and meh.įallen and pre-fallen stuff are just brilliant in how metaphorical it is, compared to now.
Yes there are a few standout songs here and there or maybe a part of lyric in a song that's good.īut, the lyrics used to be so imaginative and metaphorical and made you wonder and think. With each subsequent release, the lyrics are dropping in Quality quite severely so. I just feel like sometimes she could be more creative, and I know she has the ability to be if she wants to. There are longer phases that she uses that are cliché as well, like variations of "my heart is broken." After hearing that phrase in so many Evanescence songs, it kind of makes me cringe, even if it is authentic coming from her. These are useful words but, she uses them so much that they just feel like filler. as happy as in the songs: Now at last (Feist), My immortal (Evanescence). She recycles the words "dream," "bleed," "breathe," " "pain," "darkness," "lie," "sacrifice," "die," "home," and I'm sure some other ones I'm forgetting. When the individual lines of lyrics are projected against the selected. That said, one thing that's always come across as unimaginative is her limited vocabulary. The Open Door in particular has some great lyrics. Songs like Your Star, Good Enough, Like You, Hello, are very poignant and interesting. Let me just say that I still respect Amy as a songwriter and I think she has written some beautiful lyrics.
